So Much and So Little

I remember so much and you so little
palm trees casting a splintered shade
was it impossibile to meet in the middle?
to carve love’s imperfection with a rusty blade?

Dawn goes to dusk with no transition
a rolling yin-yang of charity and hope
all gestation and no fruition
struggle is the most exhausted trope

The trouble with mistakes is you never plan
to make the really big ones
but hurt and heartache can only grow
to burn forever as napalmed suns

And you want sufficient salve
sun up, sun down, solstice beckons
you would give everything you have
to heal but not reckon
