At far too young an age, he was allowed to explore the adult section of the public library without supervision. He happened upon Kerouac without any context and embarked upon a twenty-year career as a roustabout. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps at age eighteen and spent two years in Okinawa doing his best impression of Captain Sir Richard Francis Burton.
He holds a B.A. in political science as well as advanced degrees in library science and business administration.
